Alcohol: One Boy’s Story
Marc
Payette of West Rowan High School died in August from an alcohol related crash.
Payette was driving around three o’clock in the morning after he had been
drinking. He attempted to pass a car he was following, but he moved back
into his lane too quickly and clipped the front of the car. Payette lost
control of his 1998 Dodge pickup truck and hit a tree. Sadly, Marc Payette
died alone at the scene of the accident. Marc’s irresponsible decision
could have left the driver of the car he struck in poor condition as well.
Fortunately, the other driver had small injuries and was not hospitalized.
Marc’s death was a tragedy to his fellow students, teachers, and
friends. Marc’s death is humbling to
many since he was only seventeen. Unfortunately, Marc had to learn the hard
way that drinking and driving is a destructive decision, but he serves as
an example to all that drinking and driving will not end well. The students
of West Rowan held many ceremonies in Payette’s honor and have worked to
create organizations and clubs against drinking and driving.
